A Frank Conversation about Museum Pedagogy

On February 1, Chernivtsi Regional Art Museum hosted a regular meeting of the "Museum Talks" series as part of the House of Memory educational project implemented by the Chernivtsi Museum of the History and Culture of Bukovinian Jews. This time, the topic for discussion was "Museum Pedagogy: a Demand of the Times or a Fifth Wheel?".

The guest speakers were Anna Yamchuk (Ph.D. in Educational Sciences) Manager of Educational Programs at the Chernivtsi Museum of the History and Culture of Bukovinian Jews, and Romana Fysiuk, Deputy Principal for Educational Work of Taras Shevchenko Chernivtsi Lyceum No. 8. Mykola Hlibishchuk (Ph.D. in History), Assistant Professor of the Department of World History at the Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, moderated the discussion.

The meeting discussed the role and place of museum pedagogy in the system of formal and non-formal education in Ukraine, as well as its content and objectives. After getting acquainted with a few examples of best international practices in this field, as well as some of the best practices of the Chernivtsi Museum of the History and Culture of Bukovinian Jews, the participants analyzed the challenges faced by students and teachers at Chernivtsi schools while building a dialogue with the region’s museum environment.
