All under one roof – "House of Memory"

It’s been almost a month and a half since our project started. During the first few weeks, our team discussed the first milestones. The drafts of content were developed and some technical questions were clarified. We also managed to expand our project team. Now the implementation of the first stage of the project has been planned in detail, and its main tasks have been distributed among team members. It seems that the biggest challenge for us at the moment is the visual/graphic implementation of the project idea. After all, our aim is to provide easy access to the topics for our visitors and users.
After a long and thorough discussion of various ideas and concepts, we have chosen "House of Memory" as a project title because it reflects the overall project and its various formats very well. Under its umbrella we will bring together our digital platform as well as the web documentary, learning apps, workshops, podcasts and museum talks. In addition, the name "House of Memory" is perfectly suitable as a corporate design for all project formats.
However, this "House" is not some imaginary building. It exists in reality and always catches the eye of Chernivtsi residents and its visitors when they are walking in Teatralna Square. We are talking about the "Jewish House", which was built in 1908 and until the outbreak of the Second World War was the seat not only of Jewish self-government in Chernivtsi but also of various Jewish institutions. From this point of view, it is of great importance as a center of political and cultural life for the Jewish history of our city and region and as a building that serves as a symbol of the national and cultural self-affirmation of the Jewish community.
The front of the house has huge potential in terms of visual solutions for the unfolding of the important topics of the project, as it has witnessed all the main events of local Jewish history, from the 19th century to this day. So, over the next few months we will be dealing with the "rooms of remembrance" in this building and later in the web documentary we will present the entire spectrum of events in Jewish history: the successful political, cultural and social movements, but also anti-Jewish manifestations, bloody massacres, deportations, and attitudes towards Jews from 1945 to the present day.
The topics of anti-Semitism and totalitarianism are of key interest to us. We aim to explore the anti-Semitic and totalitarian processes that have taken place in this region. We want to show what role disinformation and propaganda have played in these processes. Of course, we also would like to talk about the instruments and methods that can be used to tackle the destructive influence of the latter. For this purpose, we plan to develop interactive learning apps for children and adolescents.
